"Short Turn" Design
This design features a tight radius curve. The centerline of the outlet is closer to the centerline of the inlet than it would be on a "long turn" or "sweep" elbow.
Implication: It saves space. A short turn elbow is used where a compact directional change is needed, often within wall cavities or tight spaces.
Hub x Hub Design
The most common style for DWV applications is Hub x Hub (abbreviated as FxF for Female x Female). This means both ends have a bell-shaped socket (hub) designed to accept the plain end of a pipe of the same size.
